Focus On Fashion

Focus on Fashion Gospel Industry Coalition

Like today’s culture, fashion in the gospel community, es-pecially since the pandemic, has evolved. There has always been controversy over what’s appropriate for Christians to wear, whether they’re going to church or anywhere else! How-ever, although strict rules may be “old skool,” there are guide-lines to assist in staying in step with fashion but also staying on the good foot with faith.

Guideline #1: Trendy, stylish and cute does not mean wear it!

Dressing appropriately means respecting your body type and making sure the look you project fits and flatters your character, no matter if you’re lunching with a church mother or hangin’ with the sistas.

Guideline #2: Proper fit is crucial.

Make sure your clothes are the right size! Let go of the past and forget the fantasy (“I’m going to lose the weight”). Buy clothes for the here and now that are a comfortable fit and aren’t too tight or too loose. (Tailoring makes a noticeable difference).

Guideline #3: Maintain quality basics.

Invest in a good pair of well-fitted jeans, a white buttoned-down shirt, black suit/dress, black or beige blazer. These are the

“can’t go wrong” staples that will work anywhere, anytime.

Guideline #4: Always Accessorize

Great accessories can transform any outfit from “blah” to

“Bamm!” Statement jewelry, handbags, belts, and scarves DO

make a difference!

With more than half of American women wearing a size 16 and above, it simply means that American women have more to style fabulously and be grateful for!

Five Tips to help you look your best no matter what size you are!

1.Know your Body Type (Apple, Hourglass, Pear, Rectangle).

2.Wear the right size bra (Get fitted. Every brand is different).

3.Always wear the right size undergarment (Panties, Body Shapers).

  1. Invest in quality and a range of styles of Body Shapers (Based on the design of outfit).
  2. Know what fabric works with your Body Type (All fabrics are not flattering to various shapes).

Can anyone wear bold colors?

Yes, you just need to know how! Wearing bold colors, vibrant prints and tailored suits create unforgettable signa-ture looks and styles. Go for it!

Tips on Wearing Bold Colors

#1: Find Your Style. Whether suited and booted or sequined to the max!

#2: Wear colors that compliment your skin and hair color.

#3: Trust Your instincts, but wear what makes you feel  good!

You Don’t Have to Be an Artist to Dress Like One!

Style tips for everyday glam.

  • Nail care is impor-tant. People notice your hands so keep your manicure fresh, and if you’re “in between” simply remove the color and apply a coat of clear polish.
  • Never, ever wear the following in public: bedroom slippers, hair rollers, pajama pants or a satin hair bonnet.
  • Let go of your 15-year-old clothes. Someone needs them…donate them! Please!
  • Wear shoes that fit. If your toes hang over the edge or your heels hang off the back of your sandals, they don’t fit, and you must quit!
  • Invest in  a few pair of good black shoes. One pair of flats, a second low-heeled pair for ease-of-use, and a dress pair (if you want to or can go with a higher heel for special occasions).
  • If you’re a fan of jeans, boots, sneakers, or handbags, choose wisely, and purchase classics that are well-made. You don’t need “designer” everything, but quality items will last longer and look better. Find more than “one” of the items you “love.” Variety is a good thing!
  • Go for a bit of sparkle. Shoes, shirts, pants, earrings, hair accessories. Oh Yeah!
  • Make your look intentionally reflective of your personal style.
  • Choose colorful accessories that you love. Whether it’s a blouse, a pair of shoes or earrings, a bracelet or a belt, accessories that introduce complementary colors can add sizzle to your sass.
  • Don’t be afraid to thrift. One man’s (or wom-an’s) trash is another’s treas-ure. You might be surprised at the things you’ll find!
